Some wedding details are seen. Others are held. Linen wedding menus belong to the second kind: guests pick them up, run a thumb along the frayed edge, and read every course before the first glass is poured. For this romantic styled shoot at Chateau de Lis in Oregon, we created custom linen menus for a black-tie garden reception, and the photos from Hannah Nofziger (@hvfitzphotos) show exactly why fabric belongs on the table.

A Black-Tie Garden Reception at Chateau de Lis
Chateau de Lis feels like a page from a European storybook: stone facades, wrought-iron gates, a glass conservatory, and gardens heavy with hydrangeas. Designed by @styledcollectiveco, the shoot leaned into that old-world romance with a modern, editorial edge. Think draped ivory linens, matte black plates and taper candles, blush glassware, and pleated lamps glowing down the length of each table.
Our models, Aaron and Jess, arrived in true storybook fashion, with a Clydesdale from @theluxeclydesdaleweddings. A towering white cake from @silverton.bake.shop stood framed by draped arches, a champagne tower sparkled beside it, and a s'mores cart from @marshandmallowco brought something sweet (and a little playful) to the evening.
The Linen Menus: Soft, Textural, and Made to Be Kept

Every place setting was layered with intention: a black charger and plate, a blush gauze napkin tied with black velvet ribbon, an acrylic name in flowing script, and tucked beside it, a linen menu with softly frayed edges.

The menu design brought the whole table together. A delicate crest monogram framed in botanical laurels sat at the top, followed by each course in a mix of classic serif headings and romantic script:
- Starter
- First course
- Main course
- Dessert
- Final sweet treats
Printed on soft, natural linen, the menus picked up the ivory of the tablecloths and the movement of the draped fabric around them. Paper can look flat against a layered tablescape. Linen catches the light, shows its weave in close-up photos, and softens every edge of the table.
Why Choose Linen Wedding Menus Over Paper

If you are deciding between paper and fabric menus, here is what linen brings to your reception:
- Texture you can feel. Natural linen has a weave and weight that guests notice the moment they sit down.
- Movement and softness. Each edge is hand-cut and frayed, so menus feel organic rather than stiff or mass-produced.
- Photographs beautifully. Photographers love fabric for detail shots, because linen shows depth and dimension up close.
- A keepsake, not a throwaway. Guests are far more likely to tuck a linen menu into their bag and keep it long after the night ends.
- Cohesive design. Linen pairs naturally with fabric napkins, draped tablecloths, and fabric signage for a reception that feels thoughtfully designed from end to end.
How to Style Linen Menus on Your Tables

A few styling ideas from this tablescape that work for almost any palette:
- Set it beside the plate. Placing the menu to the right of the plate, as we did here, keeps it readable and lets the frayed edge frame the setting.
- Layer with contrast. Ivory linen against matte black plates gives a modern, editorial look. For something softer, pair it with gold chargers or blush stoneware.
- Repeat the monogram. Carry your crest or initials from the invitations onto the menus for a cohesive stationery story.
- Tie in your napkins. Gauze or linen napkins in a coordinating tone echo the menu's texture.
- Let your florals lean in. Airy blooms like baby's breath and garden roses look beautiful spilling toward a linen menu in photos.
